What makes a good American society?

American civilization faces two choices: decadence, stagnation, and eventual decline; or revitalization and renaissance. In this salon, Zak Slayback and students will discuss several perspectives of the role of the transcendent good in revitalizing a society and helping its members usher in a renaissance. We’ll also explore the forces behind stagnation and decadence and their supernatural and theological counterparts.

Students will read and discuss:

  • Against Edenism by Peter Thiel
  • Back to the Future by Peter Thiel
  • Selections from Zero to One by Peter Thiel
  • Selections from I See Satan Fall Like Lightening by Rene Girard
  • Lectures by Ven. Fulton J. Sheen
