Today marks the debut of my entrance into the blogosphere- and I have to say, I think that occasion warrants its very own introductory blog post.
First off, to anyone reading, I feel honored that you consider my blog worth your time, and I hope I can garner your interest and keep you around. As my bio information states, my name is Amelia Evrigenis, and I’m a rising junior at Claremont McKenna College, a liberal arts institution in Claremont, California. I’m pursuing a dual major in legal studies and Spanish with a sequence in gender studies.
At CMC, I’m the managing editor for the Claremont Independent, an alternative campus news and commentary publication for the Claremont Colleges. I’m currently living in San Diego and interning as a features reporter with the San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper. Next month, I take off for a semester abroad in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
I am in some respects quite traditional, in other respects rather forward-thinking, in all respects spunky, in no respects timid.
I plan to use this blog to discuss a topic near and dear to my heart – that of modern gender relations. For those of you who already rolled your eyes when I mentioned my gender studies sequence, you’re now in for a real treat.
But don’t worry- I think I have a fresh perspective on gender issues, and that’s what I want to highlight here. I want to publicly defy the stereotype that any woman interested in gender studies is a radical left-wing socialist “bra burner” who hates men. But I also want to publicly challenge contemporary notions of feminism, which so often miss the mark on what gender equality truly is.
