Aaron Taylor, Andrew Haines and Michael W. Hannon have reconvened the discussion over whether “gayness,” and sexual orientation itself, are prudent or fruitful terms to employ—or whether they even exist.
On Friday, Taylor responded at Ethika Politika to Hannon’s recent First Things piece, which itself was just the next word in a conversation that has been unfolding since this summer. Taylor’s response follows on the heels of a two-part reflection by Haines on understanding “gayness” and the phenomenon of “coming out.”

All genuine philosophical discourse begins with defining what we mean by the words we use, Plato and Aristotle believed.
