John E. Alvis
Dr. Alvis is Director of American Studies and Professor of English at the University of Dallas and a member of the faculty of the Institute of Philosophic Studies. He is the author of Shakespeare’s Understanding of Honor (Carolina Academic Press, 1989), Divine Initiative and Heroic Response: The Political Plan of Zeus (Rowman and Littlefield, 1995), and editor of Areopagitica and Other Political Writings of John Milton (Liberty Fund Press, 1999). He has published articles on Virgil, Ghiberti, Shakespeare, Milton, Melville, O’Neill, Caroline Gordon, and Derek Walcott, as well as writings on American politics, constitutional issues, the political thought of Willmoore Kendall, and controversies in contemporary American higher education. He is completing a series of full-length plays about Hamilton, Lincoln, and Wilson.
