Dr. Barry Alan Shain

Dr. Shain is professor of political science at Colgate University. He is the author of The Myth of American Individualism: The Protestant Origins of American Political Thought (Princeton University Press, 1994) and the editor of The Nature of Rights at the American Founding and Beyond (University of Virginia Press, 2007). Dr. Shain writes and lectures frequently on American political thought (especially that of the Founding periods), modern Western political philosophy, Enlightenment political thought, problems of modernity, and the theory of classical republicanism and contemporary communalism.
