Allan Bloom
Dr. Bloom was a professor in the Committee on Social Thought at the University of Chicago. His best seller, The Closing of the American Mind: How Higher Education Has Failed Democracy and Impoverished the Souls of Today’s Students(Simon and Schuster) appeared in 1987. He is also the author of Shakespeare’s Politics (with Harry V. Jaffa, Basic Books, 1964); Giants and Dwarfs: Essays 1960-1990 (Simon and Schuster, 1990); Love and Friendship (Simon and Schuster, 1993); and translations of The Republic of Plato (Basic Books, 1968) and Rousseau’s Emile (Basic Books, 1979).
