“Reforming” the College English Curriculum

It is ironic that our would-be “reformers” of the college English curriculum believe it to be deficient in “multiculturalism” and “diversity.” In reality, the English language is diverse in its very structure, drawing on a wide variety of Germanic and Latinate sources. Not only that, but also in its literature, English is an increasingly international tongue, exhibiting great variety and flexibility even while it maintains its distinct character. . . .
